Meet Dr. Loh

Dr. Vyvyane Loh graduated from Boston University with a double major in Biology and Classics. She was selected for early acceptance into Boston University Medical School while still only in her undergraduate freshman year. After graduation from medical school, she trained at Newton-Wellesley Hospital (a Tufts-affiliated training program) and served as Chief Medical Resident. She received her board-certification in Internal Medicine and worked first in primary-care and then as a hospitalist in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Dr. Loh is also an established novelist and choreographer, and over time, her artistic and medical interests converged in the field of Medical Aesthetics. After intensive training with the American Association of Aesthetics Medicine and Surgery in Beverly Hills,LA and Esthetic Skin Institute in Florida, she opened Earth and Sage Medical Spa to provide customized, professional aesthetics procedures in the Boston area. In her personal life, Dr. Loh practices yoga, dance, meditation and daily mindfulness living. Dr. Loh believes that a holistic lifestyle and a focus on wellness rather than disease, combined with state-of-the-art non-surgical procedures are the best pathways towards a life of youthful well-being and vigor. Dr. Loh is currently a member of the American Association of Aethetics Medicine and Surgery.

“I first became interested in Aethetics Medicine after a friend of mine told me her story. She is a physician herself, a perky, vivacious woman who was diagnosed with breast cancer. After a year of surgery, chemo and radiation, she was cancer-free but when she looked at herself in the mirror one day, she felt she looked tired and blah (yes, blah is a medical term!). She just wanted to do something special for herself, a pick-me-up after all she had endured the year before. She decided to get Botox—and she felt (and looked) great with the results!

I was struck by her courage and her strength and found myself delighted for her that she was boosted by her cosmetic procedure. By this time in my life I was already disillusioned by much of the practice of medicine in the West. I wanted to help people embrace wellness, to feel good about themselves and to have the confidence and energy to live vibrant lives. It seemed to me that the proper use of Aesthetics Medicine would complement a healthy lifestyle and the contribute to one's state of Wellness. At this point, I began my training and education in Medical Aesthetics and later opened my Aesthetics practice.

Over time, I found that Aesthetics Medicine allowed me to help patients look and feel better about themselves, and as a consequence of that, to adopt better, healthier lifestyles. I was astounded that patients proceeded to eat better, exercise, stop smoking, sleep better, all as a direct result of feeling better about themselves. I realized then that Aesthetics Medicine is not about vanity or being fake. It's about helping patients discover their full potential, allowing them to develop confidence and to take charge of their health. In the design world, the best aesthetics must combine functionality, economy and accessibility. Along those lines, I believe that a new approach to health care must address Wellness in the context of functionality (internal), aesthetics (external) in an accessible and economical manner. In my experience, addressing our personal aesthetic and cosmetic needs is the first step in the journey towards a new relationship with the self. My goal at Earth and Sage Medical Spa is to provide the best in Wellness and Aesthetics Medicine at reasonable rates to patients.”
